Hackers are gaining access to e-mail accounts through captured passwords, and they’ll search inboxes for messages related to real estate transactions. Once they find a victim who’s in the process of buying or selling a home, they’ll send a spoof e-mail that looks like it’s from their REALTOR®, title representative, or attorney, and it will say there are wiring instructions, or “new” wiring instructions, which include a fraudulent account. The customer will then unwittingly wire funds directly into the hacker’s account.
Martin Rubin and Broward Realty Partners will NEVER transmit any wiring instructions or changes to wiring instructions to you by email, fax or any other electronic means. Any such instruction, including contact information included therein, should be treated as fraudulent.
